Artist Statement

Looking closely, endless piles of scribbled lines and geometric shapes have a confident fluidity of movements and gestures. Collectively these masses of marks create abstract environments. From a distance, however, they form a simple and unified image that starts to move toward representation. I hope that this creates a juxtaposition of feelings, such as comfort and relaxation from a distance, but canbe visually disturbing and dizzying up close.

The act of adding each line on the paper is a highly sensual, pleasurable, meditative, and transcendent process for me because lines are very explicit alone but together quite unpredictable. I want my drawings to be confusing but intriguing, creating a dizzying sense from the repetitions of numerous lines. I mean them to be ecstatic, echoing the way I feel during the process of art making.
